The RILA LISTSERV is an e-mail discussion forum through which RILA members can
share ideas, questions, and concerns with one another. Members of the RILA Board and Standing Committee Members also use the list to make announcements to the membership.
Please note:
- You will receive RILA-L postings only if you are a current member of the Rhode Island Library Association.
- Likewise, postings to RILA-L will only be accepted from RILA members in good standing.
SEND A MESSAGE To send a message to all recipients of RILA-L:
LISTSERV ETIQUETTE One of the most common "mistakes" people make when using LISTSERVs is
intending to reply to the person who sent the message, but instead replying to the entire list. Not only does this clutter up other list members' e-mail, but your
message might contain information meant only for the recipient that you would NOT want everyone to read!
To prevent this faux-pas, when you want to reply only to the individual who sent
a message to RILA-L, select Forward and re-type your correspondent's e-mail address instead of selecting Reply, which will deliver your response to everyone on RILA-L.
REMOVE FROM LIST To be removed from RILA-L:
Contact the Chair of the Membership Committee and let him or her know whether:
- You would like to be removed from RILA-L entirely (this means you will no
longer receive messages from RILA-L nor will you be able to post messages to RILA-L), or
- You would still like to be able to post messages to RILA-L but would prefer not to receive any messages.
TEMPORARILY SUSPEND MAIL If you are going to be away from your e-mail for a period of time (for example
vacation or sick leave), you may wish to have your subscription to RILA-L temporarily suspended. If this is the case, please contact the Chair of the Membership Committee and let him or her know when you would like mail from RILA
-L to stop and when it should be restarted.
DIGESTS OF RILA-L RILA-L is available in digest form. This means you get only one message a day
summarizing the contents of the previous day's activity on RILA-L. If you wish to receive RILA-L in digest form, please contact the Chair of the Membership Committee and let him or her know that you would like to make this change.
QUESTIONS? As of the 2002 membership year, RILA decided to move from an open list to a
closed list. The RILA Board felt that RILA-L was an important benefit of RILA membership and therefore should be available to RILA members only.
Besides hopefully encouraging more people to join RILA, changing to a closed list
has the additional benefit of removing from the subscriber any need to issue LISTSERV commands themselves.
Any questions about your membership status, receipt/non-receipt of RILA-L
messages, or ability to post a message to RILA-L should be addressed to the Membership Chair. Any technological questions may be addressed to the RILA Webmaster via our Contact Us form.
